The Rules

This a challenge that has traditionally been used for the golfing majors and on some occasions for the TPC at Sawgrass.

General rules

  • Five pounds entry fee
  • Each participant has to pick a team of golfers for the tournament
  • Of these players, the score of your best three players count as your score
  • The player with the lowest total scores wins the prize fund
  • In the event of the tie, please see below
  • Winner takes all

Player selection

Team selection is as follows:

  • Numbered ping pong balls were used, one for each of the participants
  • Each participant draws a ball out of the bag – that number then represents his turn in selecting a player in that round
  • It is traditional that the previous winner is last to select, so the person to his left should pick first
  • Once all balls are selected, participants pick their player in turn for that round
  • Note that an alternative method such as pre-selected random numbers can be used to pick the order when there are too many players to make the above option practicable
  • No participant may pick the same player
  • The draw number for each player must be noted
  • This continues for five rounds until everybody has a full team
  • It is usual practice to use the odds from Paddypower for the team selection
  • In the event of a participant taking part, but not being present at the draw, they would take the player with the lowest available odds in the list, unless they provide a list of preferred players

Ties

  • In the event of a tie the player with the highest average draw from the player selection stage is deemed the winner
  • If this is also tied, then the prize shall be split equally

Injury

  • In the event of a player pulling out of the event prior to it starting, participants are not able to select another player – tough shit

History

  • The golf challenge was started by Darren Morgan, Mike Jones, Mark Smith and Steve Drew, and was started around 2003. Previous results and records will be added periodically.
